Happy Spring Training!!

It's that time of year again... I'm so excited right now, I don't even know how to contain myself.  How appropriate that baseball will begin anew on Valentine's Day!!  Love of my life, indeed.

This is one of the few times that I wish I live in Florida... so I can watch as many Braves and Blue Jays games as I possibly can.  Florida is home to Spring Training for the East, you know... so much baseball....

Isn't the thought of all that baseball crammed into one state just the most beautiful feeling in the world?  It put me into a trance just now... Seriously, think about it.  The pristine grass.  The cracks of the bats.  The whoosh of baseballs flying through the air.  Sunny skies.  Uniforms...

I LOVE it.

The only thing that would make Spring Training better would be if it took place in Georgia.  Oh, yes, I said it.  Georgia.  Why?  Because I'd go.  And then I could go home.  HOW WONDROUS WOULD THAT BE?????????????????????

Ok, I'm done.  :D

PS... I don't want to hear why Spring Training should NOT be in Georgia.  I don't care about your logic, thanks.  Naturally, it'd be magically warmer if Spring Training took place here.  Plus, 65 degree weather?  PERFECT time to play baseball.

i'm a huge jays fan living in toronto. i read your blog about going to morrow's one hitter game. you can't pick a better day to go to the jays game! i love the braves. probably because i hate the phillis so much and the braves are the team who always beat them.

Awesome! I'm always glad to have Blue Jays/Braves fans reading the blog! I feel bad, because I can't say as much about the Jays as I would like... there's no coverage on them whatsoever in Atlanta.

And the Morrow game? It was totally rad. I actually wanted to see Romero pitch, but it looked like Morrow's was the only one we could have gone to... and it worked out so nicely. So many strikeouts. It was beautiful. The only thing was that we were all the way out in the outfield... can't really see the pitches very well. And of course, the night before had been a home-run derby of a game. :P Oh well!

:D

haha... i like morrow better than romero... i like intimidating / dominant pitcher who strike guys out and morrow is the exactly the type of pitcher i like. plus i have a crush on him. haha. oh, i can't say much about the braves either... but i do support them as a phillis hater. lol. anyway, thanks for giving us escobar. i like him a lot. he will be a really great ss for us... his defense, hit for average and speed... my type of player as well.

Oh, seventeen strikeouts definitely won me over. I am a BIG fan of Brandon Morrow. :)

As far as Yunel goes... I'm still annoyed about that trade... but if he had to be traded from the Braves, at least he went to Toronto. He's way fab. You SHOULD love him. :D

oh, just wondering, why was escobar hated so much in atlanta? i heard that bobby cox and many of his teammates hated him and want him to be traded. so when alex gonzalez walked into clubhouse, he got a standing ovation from the team? from a jays fan's point of view, he seemed fine.

Ha, I wrote a whole post (and then some) about that. I think Yunel was a dividing force in Atlanta. I was part of the crowd that adored him, and Atlanta's sports media (and therefore fans who read the news) didn't like him.

The Braves, and I say this with love, like their players to be boring, I think. Don't talk out of turn, don't give "attitude," etc. They're all "good ol' boys" and "family men." I'm not putting that in quotes to say that they AREN'T those things, but that is definitely the image that the Braves want to give off.

I'm of the opinion that any of the more, say, flamboyant/flashy players are looked down upon, particularly if their English isn't good. They're also the first to be traded, regardless of whether or not they are good. (EXAMPLES: Yunel, Gregor Blanco, and Omar Infante... basically, all my darlings.) Because they don't fit the "Braves way."

But unless a player or a coach is actually willing to outright say that they didn't like Yunel Escobar, I wouldn't believe a damn thing the Atlanta sports media has to say, particularly Bowman, O'Brien, Schultz, and gondee of Talking Chop. Saying "a source inside the Braves clubhouse" means nothing to me.

In other words, there was no actual reason to dislike Yunel Escobar, and I don't know why the media was out to get him. I'm glad he's happy in Toronto, and I get to see that giant boyish grin of his again. And the webgems are back...

:D
